Plastics are made in different types, each with specific properties and uses. These types are usually identified by recycling codes, which help in sorting and managing plastic waste. Understanding the different types of plastics is important for proper use, disposal, and recycling.
Common types of plastics include PET, HDPE, PVC, LDPE, PP, PS, and other mixed plastics. Some of these are widely recyclable and commonly used in everyday products, while others are more difficult to recycle and may have greater environmental impacts. By identifying these types, individuals and industries can make more informed choices and support better waste management practices.

Single-Use Plastics
Single-use plastics are items designed to be used once and then discarded, such as plastic bags, straws, wrappers, and packaging materials. Due to their short usage and high consumption, they contribute significantly to plastic waste and environmental pollution.
These products are widely used in everyday life but are often not properly collected or recycled, leading to their accumulation in drains, rivers, and the marine environment.
In Bangladesh, the Government has officially declared the phase-out of selected single-use plastic items as part of efforts to reduce plastic pollution. A list of 17 commonly used single-use plastic products has been identified for restriction.
The implementation of these measures is being carried out in a phased manner, allowing for a gradual transition towards sustainable alternatives, while supporting industries and consumers in adapting to these changes. These efforts form part of broader national actions to strengthen plastic waste management and reduce environmental and health impacts.
