As Bangladesh advances its plastic waste management agenda, compliance mechanisms are being developed to ensure that all stakeholders—producers, importers, brand owners, and recyclers—adhere to the country’s evolving environmental regulations.
Key upcoming compliance areas include:
• Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR):
Producers, importers, and brand owners will be required to register, submit plastic usage data, meet waste collection and recovery targets, and submit compliance reports. The forthcoming EPR framework will outline detailed procedures, including reporting formats and enforcement mechanisms.
• Single-Use Plastic (SUP) Restrictions:
In line with national commitments, specific SUP products will be restricted or banned. Manufacturers and retailers must ensure that products meet the approved criteria and avoid non-compliant packaging.
• Environmental Management Plans (EMPs):
Recyclers and plastic processors may be required to submit environmental management plans and demonstrate safe handling, storage, and processing of plastic waste.
• Voluntary Environmental Agreements (VEAs):
Businesses may also participate in sector-wide agreements that set shared targets and standards for sustainable plastic use, backed by DoE and development partners.
This section of the platform will be regularly updated with the latest guidelines, templates, and registration procedures to support all actors in meeting their obligations under the new regulatory landscape.
