Innovation is central to solving the plastic crisis. That’s why the PlasticPath platform is committed to supporting entrepreneurs, researchers, and small enterprises that are developing forward-thinking solutions to reduce plastic waste and promote circular economy models in Bangladesh.

A key initiative under this vision is the Cleantech Acceleration and Commercialization Program, launched by the project in partnership with SME Foundation under Component 4: Recycling Industry Development. The program is designed to identify, support, and scale innovative plastic solutions developed by Bangladeshi startups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), students, and research institutions.

What the Program Offers

The accelerator offers end-to-end support for early-stage cleantech innovators, including:
•    Mentorship and training on entrepreneurship, circular design, and sustainable business models
•    Technical support for prototype development and idea refinement
•    Access to networks of investors, recyclers, industry experts, and policymakers
•    Exposure and public recognition through curated events, exhibitions, and a national innovation competition

Participants also receive orientation on Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) and Design for Environment (DfE) principles, enabling them to embed sustainability into their innovations from the start.

Who Participates

The program brings together a diverse mix of change-makers:
•    Up to 15 startups or SMEs, including at least three women-led enterprises
•    Students and young researchers (with gender-inclusive quotas)
•    Innovators from academia, NGOs, and waste-handling sectors
•    Potential investors and corporate stakeholders
Each participant is required to submit a synopsis of their idea or product as part of the application process. The most promising entries are selected by a Jury Board comprising national experts, representatives from DoE, UNIDO, and other project stakeholders.

Why It Matters

This program is not only nurturing new ideas but also building a national pipeline of solutions for plastic waste reduction. By empowering innovators at the grassroots and connecting them to institutional platforms, the Cleantech Acceleration and Commercialization Program helps bridge the gap between research, entrepreneurship, and environmental impact.

If you’re working on a solution that tackles plastic pollution in an innovative way, we invite you to be part of this growing ecosystem. The next call for applications will be announced soon.
